Deutsche Telekom Launches Standalone Fiber Optic Plans Up To 2 Gbit/s

Deutsche Telekom is launching new, standalone fiber optic plans offering download speeds from 150 to 2,000 Mbit/s. These plans will be available for customers starting July 2.

A significant feature of the new fiber optic plans is that the upload speed in all offerings will be half of the download speed. For instance, a 600 Mbit/s download speed will be paired with a 300 Mbit/s upload speed. The company emphasizes that this is crucial for data-intensive applications like video conferencing, online gaming, and sharing large files.

The entry-level plan, Glasfaser 150, costs €44.95 per month and provides 150 Mbit/s download and 75 Mbit/s upload. This package also includes unlimited calls and data within all German mobile networks. Higher speed tiers, ranging from 300, 600, 1,000, to 2,000 Mbit/s, are priced between €49.95 and €139.95 per month. The contract term is 24 months.

Telekom also offers the option to bundle these new fiber connections with MagentaTV, its television service featuring time-shift functionality and integration with multiple streaming partners. The company believes the new speeds and improved upload capabilities will meet the growing demands of home use, including Ultra-HD streaming, online gaming, and remote work.

Business customers will also benefit from the new offerings. The "Business Glasfaser Start" plans provide the same speed options for companies and are expected to support solutions such as cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
