Deutsche Telekom Offers Sovereign Cloud Infrastructure for German Public Administration

Deutsche Telekom is enhancing Germany's digital sovereignty with its T Cloud Public cloud platform. The company is now officially part of a framework agreement for cloud and AI services for public administration, awarded by GovTech Deutschland to Bechtle AG. This move allows federal, state, and local authorities to procure cloud and AI infrastructure directly, bypassing lengthy individual tendering processes.

The framework agreement simplifies procurement for public sector IT managers and procurement officers. Cloud and AI resources can now be accessed through Bechtle's multi-cloud broker portal, making the acquisition process faster and more transparent. The platform supports key initiatives such as the Deutschland platform and the MEDI:CUS healthcare platform, adhering to the security requirements of the Germany Stack.

"Germany should not only call for digital sovereignty in policy papers but also implement it consistently," stated Ferri Abolhassan, CEO of T-Systems International. "With T Cloud Public, we are delivering the right building block and proving that secure and high-performance data centers can be operated successfully in Europe." The company anticipates the cloud service will match the functionality of major hyperscalers by the end of 2026, while already being competitive in terms of pricing.

T Cloud Public meets stringent security standards, including BSI C5:2020, ISO 27001, and GDPR compliance. This ensures public authorities maintain full control over their data and operations, free from dependencies on legal systems outside of Europe. The platform's capability is demonstrated by the migration of the learning platform in Baden-Württemberg to T Cloud Public, serving over 1.5 million students and highlighting the infrastructure's scalability and reliability.
