Deutsche Telekom offers sovereign cloud infrastructure to German public administration

Deutsche Telekom is strengthening Germany's digital sovereignty with its T Cloud Public platform, which has now been officially included in the framework agreement for cloud and AI services. Awarded by GovTech Deutschland to Bechtle AG, the agreement allows federal, state, and local authorities to procure cloud and AI services directly.

The T Cloud Public platform combines European sovereignty requirements with high-performance cloud infrastructure. It ensures that all data is stored and processed exclusively in German data centers, adhering to strict European security and data protection standards, including BSI C5:2020, ISO 27001, and GDPR compliance.

This framework agreement significantly simplifies procurement for public sector IT managers, providing faster and more transparent access to cloud and AI resources. The move aims to reduce dependency on non-European providers and legal jurisdictions.

The capabilities of T Cloud Public have been demonstrated by the successful migration of the state of Baden-Württemberg's Moodle learning platform. This large-scale e-learning system, serving over 1,600 schools, now operates entirely within Germany, ensuring stability and performance under peak loads, showcasing the platform's potential for similar public sector digital initiatives.
