Deutsche Telekom: Security Shouldn't Depend on Company Size

Berlin – Deutsche Telekom is highlighting that company size should not be a barrier to effective cybersecurity. According to the company, an increasing number of small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) are falling victim to cyberattacks, and traditional solutions may not be suitable for their needs.

Niklas Horstmann, COO of Deutsche Telekom Security GmbH, states that the most expensive security problem is often not the hack itself, but the business disruption it causes. "The perspective needs to shift from the data point to business continuity," Horstmann explains. He argues that security should be closer to the network itself to better protect critical business processes, such as point-of-sale systems or customer service.

According to a Bitkom study, 87 percent of companies have experienced data theft, espionage, or sabotage in the past year. SMEs are often more vulnerable due to limited resources and sometimes a lack of an in-house IT team, creating a gap between security requirements and a company's capabilities.

Furthermore, new regulations like the NIS2 directive are increasing pressure on companies to improve their cybersecurity and demonstrate resilience. Deutsche Telekom is offering solutions that seamlessly integrate network, security, and operations. The goal is to provide scalable and easy-to-manage services tailored to businesses of various sizes.

Horstmann stresses that security should be an integrated service that adapts to a company's specific complexity, risks, and business model. With the rise of new threats, such as AI-powered attacks, network-based defense is becoming increasingly crucial to detect and prevent attacks before they cause damage.
