Deutsche Telekom to acquire Polish fiber assets for approximately 1 billion EUR

Deutsche Telekom has agreed to acquire Fiberhost, a Polish open-access fixed network operator, and Inea, a retail broadband and TV provider, for an enterprise valuation of approximately 1 billion EUR. The transaction, from Macquarie Asset Management and minority shareholders, aims to enhance T-Mobile Polska's standing in the fixed broadband sector.

The acquisition will enable T-Mobile Polska to integrate Fiberhost's fiber infrastructure and Inea's customer base with its existing 5G network and growing broadband business. This move is expected to create a stronger convergent connectivity platform. The deal brings Inea's over 300,000 customers and Fiberhost's network, which passes more than 1.4 million homes, under Deutsche Telekom's umbrella.

Dominique Leroy, CEO Europe for Deutsche Telekom AG, highlighted the strategic importance of the deal. "By bringing together strong mobile and fiber capabilities, we are creating an even better foundation for simple, reliable services for our customers," Leroy stated. He added that the acquisition would allow T-Mobile Polska to increase its contribution to Poland's digitalization.

Andreas Maierhofer, CEO of T-Mobile Polska, commented on the new chapter the acquisition represents. "Owning an FTTH network will allow us to further develop our already successful portfolio of convergent products," Maierhofer said. He believes this will strengthen their operations and enable the development of a more attractive portfolio for both business and private customers.

The transaction is subject to customary Polish competition approvals.
