Deutsche Telekom to Build Sovereign AI Platform for German Federal Government
Deutsche Telekom and SAP have secured a contract to develop a sovereign, cloud-based artificial intelligence platform for the German federal government, states, and municipalities.

Deutsche Telekom, in partnership with SAP, has been awarded a contract by the Federal Ministry for Digitalization and State Modernization (BMDS) to build a sovereign AI platform for the German public sector. The platform will provide a high-performance, secure, and independently controlled cloud infrastructure for federal, state, and municipal authorities.
The initiative aims to accelerate administrative processes and enhance information management within public administration. Initial applications for the platform will include intelligent document processing, knowledge management, and text summarization, integrating AI services with existing systems.
Company leaders highlighted the project's significance for digital sovereignty. "Europe is taking its digital future into its own hands," stated Deutsche Telekom CEO Tim Höttges. SAP CEO Christian Klein emphasized "trustworthy AI as the foundation of digital sovereignty."
The AI platform is a key component of the "Germany Stack," an initiative to create a unified digital infrastructure for the public sector, promoting modernization, security, and efficiency through shared standards and platforms.
