Deutsche Telekom to Build Sovereign AI Platform for German Government
Deutsche Telekom and SAP have been awarded a contract by the German Federal Ministry for Digitalization to build a sovereign AI platform. The initiative aims to enhance digital public administration and accelerate processes.

Deutsche Telekom, in partnership with SAP, has secured a contract from the German Federal Ministry for Digitalization and State Modernization to develop a sovereign artificial intelligence platform. This platform will serve as a shared infrastructure for the federal government, states, and municipalities across Germany.
The project aims to accelerate the automation of administrative processes by providing a secure, scalable, and interoperable cloud environment. The focus is on ensuring data sovereignty within Europe and establishing a benchmark for digital sovereignty in public administration.
Initial applications for the platform include KIPITZ, an AI assistant designed to support public sector employees with tasks such as intelligent document processing, knowledge management, translation, and text summarization. It is also intended to speed up planning and approval procedures.
Deutsche Telekom emphasizes the platform's role in Europe taking control of its digital future and forming a cornerstone of the "Germany Stack" initiative, which seeks to standardize digital infrastructure for public authorities.
