Deutsche Telekom has confirmed its commitment to climate action with its net-zero emissions targets being validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). Simultaneously, the company has been recognized for the eighth consecutive year on CDP's Climate A List for its efforts in mitigating climate change.

The telecommunications provider aims to achieve net-zero emissions by 2040. This long-term goal involves an absolute reduction of at least 90 percent in emissions across its entire value chain—Scopes 1, 2, and 3—by 2040, compared to 2020 levels. The remaining emissions are planned to be removed from the atmosphere through high-quality carbon removal projects. As an interim step, Deutsche Telekom has set a target to slash emissions by 55 percent by 2030.

For the eighth year running, Deutsche Telekom also impressed CDP, a global environmental disclosure platform, earning a place on its Climate A List. The company achieved leadership status (A) in eight out of eleven categories assessed by CDP, highlighting its progress in climate risk disclosure, management processes, and emissions reduction initiatives.

Deutsche Telekom has implemented a consistent climate strategy, including meeting 100 percent of its electricity needs with renewable energy since 2021, leading to a 94 percent reduction in Scope 1 and 2 emissions. Efforts are underway to further improve energy efficiency in network operations through technologies like fiber optics and 5G, and to reduce Scope 3 emissions by collaborating with suppliers on sustainable product development.
