Deutschlandradio's "Eine Stunde History" podcast reorganizes for 10th anniversary
Deutschlandradio's long-running and popular history podcast "Eine Stunde History" is launching a new chronological format for its 10th anniversary. The series will proceed through history in temporal order across 100 episodes.

Deutschlandradio, Germany's public broadcaster, is relaunching its established history podcast "Eine Stunde History" as it celebrates its 10th anniversary. The program is shifting to a chronological format, aiming to provide listeners with a more linear historical narrative.
The new 100-episode series, titled "Eine Stunde History โ Jetzt mal der Reihe nach. In 100 Folgen vom Anfang bis jetzt" (An Hour of History โ Now in Order. In 100 Episodes from the Beginning to Now), addresses feedback from the podcast's community. Previously, episodes jumped between disparate historical periods, which some listeners found disorienting.
The revamped podcast begins with prehistoric art in the Chauvet Cave in southern France, approximately 30,000 years ago. It will then journey through time, covering ancient civilizations like the Sumerians and progressing week by week towards contemporary Europe. The stated goal is to understand the development of modern Central European life by examining the evolution of maps, laws, languages, and historical events.
Hosted by Steffi Orbach and Markus Dichmann, with Matthias von Hellfeld as the primary host, "Eine Stunde History" is one of Deutschlandradio's oldest and most successful podcasts. New episodes will be released every Friday via the Deutschlandfunk app and other podcast platforms, and will also be broadcast on Deutschlandfunk Nova on Monday evenings.
