Despite Microsoft discontinuing support for Windows Phone in 2017, some developers continue to maintain the platform. One such developer, known as RetiredLake, has now unofficially brought Google's Quick Share functionality to Windows 10 Mobile devices.

The new application, named LiveDrop, enables direct file transfers between Windows Phone devices and other Quick Share-compatible devices, such as Android phones and Windows PCs. This functionality bypasses cloud services, facilitating faster data transmission.

LiveDrop is installed via sideloading onto a Windows 10 Mobile device. Users can select files and target devices directly within the app or through the operating system's share menu. The application also supports switching between Google's Quick Share protocol and Microsoft's Nearby Sharing feature, though the developer recommends the former.

Testing has confirmed successful file transfers from a Lumia 950 to a Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 8 and a Windows PC. However, file transfers are currently only possible from Windows Phone to other devices. The developer has confirmed that a fix for reverse transfers is in development. Users need to set their Quick Share visibility to 'Everyone' on receiving devices for a successful connection.
