Devil Wears Prada Sequel Faces Casting Hurdles, Behind-the-Scenes Drama
The highly anticipated sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada" is set to premiere 20 years after the original. Both Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway were not initially guaranteed roles.

Twenty years after its initial release, the cult fashion film "The Devil Wears Prada" is returning to cinemas with a sequel, reuniting stars Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway.
The production faced significant challenges in casting its lead roles. Anne Hathaway, who reprises her role as assistant Andy Sachs, was reportedly not among the producers' top choices. She was the ninth actress offered the part, with several other prominent actresses considered.
Meryl Streep's participation as the formidable fashion magazine editor Miranda Priestly also encountered obstacles. Initially, there were concerns about her salary demands, and some within the production doubted her comedic abilities, despite her established dramatic career and Academy Awards.
Producer Wendy Finerman recalled receiving calls questioning the decision, stating, "Have you lost your mind? She's never been funny in her life." These doubts were eventually overcome, with Streep's performance reaffirming her versatility.
The sequel, "The Devil Wears Prada 2," is expected to explore further the glitz and grit of the fashion industry and includes other returning cast members from the original film, such as Stanley Tucci.
