DEVK Expands Coverage for Balcony Power Plants

DEVK Versicherungen, a German insurance provider, has updated its household insurance policy to include coverage for balcony power plants. The insurer now covers systems with inverters up to 800 watts automatically, without the need for separate registration with the grid operator, provided they meet legal requirements.

This expansion applies to all plug-in solar devices that comply with the new legal framework, which permits a total system output of up to 2,000 watts. DEVK insures these installations as part of the household contents against damages from storm, hail, fire, and overvoltage caused by lightning. The latest household insurance tariffs also include theft protection for balcony power plants up to €1,500.

Furthermore, DEVK emphasizes the importance of private liability insurance for potential damages, such as if a balcony power plant detaches during a storm and damages a neighbor's property. For larger, roof-mounted photovoltaic systems, building insurance is recommended, requiring professional installation.

The company notes a significant increase in inquiries regarding insurance for balcony power plants, highlighting the growing interest in the technology. With Germany's recent legislative changes simplifying the use of balcony solar, DEVK aims to support this trend by enhancing its insurance offerings.
