Didi Autonomous Driving has launched passenger-carrying test services with its new generation Robotaxi R2 model in Beijing and Guangzhou. The new vehicle offers comprehensive upgrades in autonomous driving capabilities and passenger cabin experience.
The R2, jointly developed with GAC Aion, is a Robotaxi-exclusive model equipped with Didi's full L4 autonomous driving hardware and software stack. It features 33 sensors and an integrated computing platform designed to enhance perception accuracy and handling of complex scenarios. The vehicle chassis meets stringent safety standards, including dual five-star ratings in China and Europe.
Interior enhancements include maximized rear passenger space with adjustable seating and a 17.3-inch overhead screen for entertainment. An AI voice interaction system allows passengers to control various functions such as climate, windows, and interior lighting through voice commands.
Additionally, the vehicle will automatically ventilate the cabin before passengers board. Features like an external screen for interaction and voice-activated car finding are planned for future rollout. The R2 has undergone rigorous regulatory-grade testing since its delivery in January and has maintained stable operations in test deployments across Beijing, Guangzhou, and Shenzhen.
