Digia's AI Predicts Lukko to Win Finnish Ice Hockey Championship
Digia's AI has analyzed the Finnish ice hockey league's regular season and predicts Rauman Lukko will win the championship. The forecast stabilized after a tight and eventful season.

Digia Oyj's artificial intelligence model predicts that Rauman Lukko will win the Finnish ice hockey league (Liiga) championship this season. Ilves is projected to take silver, and KalPa bronze, with the playoff forecast having stabilized after February.
The unusually tight regular season has challenged both the AI and professional oddsmakers. Digia's Chief Technology Officer, Juhana Juppo, stated that the AI has gathered enough data to provide reliable predictions. Earlier in the season, in January 2025, the AI correctly predicted 10 out of 12 playoff teams.
The earlier volatility in predictions this season was attributed partly to the league's exceptional parity and partly to league changes, including the addition of a new team, Kiekko-Espoo. Teams like Tappara and Kärpät, which were previously high in predictions, have declined, surprising both the AI and other predictors.
The AI model considers historical data, but this season's games have now more significantly shaped the current forecast. Juppo suggested that predictions are unlikely to fluctuate significantly unless unexpected game results occur. He emphasized the importance of understanding AI's strengths and limitations for effective application.
