DIRECTV Secures Distribution Rights for Four NHL Regional Networks

DIRECTV reached a multi-year distribution agreement with the National Hockey League to broadcast the Hurricanes Hockey Network, Blue Jackets Hockey Network, Wild+, and Blue Note+ networks. The deal grants the provider access to pregame, postgame, and live in-game coverage for the Carolina Hurricanes, Columbus Blue Jackets, Minnesota Wild, and St. Louis Blues.

The inclusion of these regional sports networks represents an attempt by DIRECTV to maintain its footprint in local sports broadcasting as viewing habits transition toward streaming-first models. The agreement fills a gap for fans of these four franchises, who previously faced difficulties accessing regional broadcasts following shifts in local media rights.

Financial terms of the arrangement were not disclosed. The move is part of a broader industry trend where satellite and cable providers negotiate directly with leagues to secure regional sports content as traditional regional sports network business models undergo consolidation.
