Disney+, Hulu Raise Prices Up To 13 Percent

The Walt Disney Company has raised the monthly prices for its ad-free Disney+ and Hulu subscription plans by up to 13 percent. The price adjustments come as the company reported a nearly twofold increase in operating income for its streaming segment, encompassing Disney+ and Hulu, in its latest quarterly earnings.

The ad-free tiers for Disney+ and Hulu, which support 4K and HDR, are each increasing by 13 percent from $19 to $21.50 per month. The ad-supported standalone plans have also seen price adjustments, with Disney+ and Hulu's individual ad-tier subscriptions rising from $12 to $12.50. However, the bundle of Disney+ and Hulu with ads remains at $13.

Disney has also revised pricing for various bundles, including those with ESPN. The ad-free Disney+ and Hulu bundle is increasing from $20 to $22 per month. The ad-supported Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN Select bundle is rising from $20 to $22, while its ad-free counterpart will now cost $33, up from $29.

The price increases are part of Disney's strategy to enhance the profitability of its streaming services. In the company's recent financial report, the combined operating income for Disney+ and Hulu surged by 116 percent to $712 million. This marks a significant improvement, though competitor Netflix reported an operating income of $4.19 billion for the same period and serves a considerably larger subscriber base.
