An unnamed display manufacturer is reportedly developing a new screen technology that combines 2K resolution with a 240Hz refresh rate, according to Chinese tech publication IT Home. The new display technology is expected to be ready for integration into devices by 2027.

Currently, many new mobile devices feature 1.5K resolution with high refresh rates to balance performance and power consumption. While some flagship models have moved to 2K resolution, the combination of 2K and 240Hz would offer a significant upgrade in clarity and smoothness for users.

The development raises questions about power consumption. Achieving higher resolutions and refresh rates typically increases energy usage, making efficiency a key challenge for the new technology.

The display industry has seen advancements in refresh rates, with some devices already featuring 120Hz or 165Hz panels. Honor has also announced a tablet with a 240Hz OLED gaming screen. If the 2K 240Hz display becomes a reality, it would represent a notable leap forward in mobile display capabilities.
