Divine Network Launches, Reviving Six-Second Videos and Algorithm-Free Feeds

Divine, a new social network, has officially launched after nine months of beta testing, seeking to recapture the essence of the popular six-second video platform Vine. The service not only provides access to an archive of original Vine videos but also allows users to create new content, positioning itself as a standalone social network.

A core feature of Divine is its commitment to an algorithm-free feed, allowing users more control over the content they see. Unlike many contemporary platforms that rely on algorithms to curate user experiences, Divine emphasizes a model where content spreads through user sharing and reposting, mirroring Vine's original approach.

The platform also distinguishes itself with a strict policy against artificial intelligence-generated content. Divine tracks video provenance and requires all new videos to be captured within its app, preventing uploads. This focus on human-created content aims to foster trust and authenticity in the digital space, according to founder Evan Henshaw-Plath, also known as Rabble.

Divine aims to demonstrate that social networks can succeed without becoming massive, corporate entities. The service utilizes decentralized storage technology and has received financial backing, including support from Jack Dorsey. It is also exploring brand partnerships, such as a recent collaboration with Taco Bell for a throwback menu promotion.
