DJI introduces new robovac with enhanced navigation and local data mode

DJI has announced the second generation of its Romo robovac, the Romo 2 series. The new models, including the transparent P2 and opaque A2 variants, promise quieter operation and more powerful suction. Enhancements have also been made to the robot's ability to navigate and climb over small obstacles, such as cables.

The most significant update addresses privacy concerns. The Romo 2 series introduces a local-only data mode, meaning data is processed and stored directly on the device. This feature is designed to reassure users following security issues reported with the first-generation Romo.

Navigation capabilities have been significantly upgraded. The new robovacs can reportedly identify and avoid obstacles as small as 2mm, as well as transparent objects like mirrors or glass. DJI also mentions "human-like reasoning" technology intended to improve the robot's environmental awareness.

Details regarding the release date and pricing for the Romo 2 series have not yet been disclosed. However, the combination of performance and privacy improvements is expected to make these new models competitive in the home robotics market.
