DJI unveils drone dock with 25-second automated battery swap
DJI Dock 4 and the Matrice 5TD drone offer continuous aerial support with a new automated battery replacement system, significantly reducing downtime.

DJI has launched the DJI Dock 4, designed to enable continuous aerial operations with an automated battery replacement system. The dock integrates the new DJI Matrice 5TD drone, which can swap its battery automatically in 25 seconds. This feature aims to reduce the time between an alert and a full situational assessment, allowing remote operators to quickly evaluate locations.
The Matrice 5TD drone is equipped with multiple sensors, including wide-angle and infrared cameras, mmWave radar, and LiDAR. It features AI-powered real-time detection for 17 types of objects, ensuring reliable flights day and night across various conditions. The drone offers a flight time of up to 59 minutes and can reach speeds of up to 21 m/s, enabling it to arrive at locations before ground personnel.
DJI Dock 4 is configured as a 'dock for first responders' (DFR), ensuring aerial support is always ready. The automated battery swap drastically cuts down drone downtime between flights, reducing it from a typical 30-minute recharge to mere seconds. Low latency for data transmission (down to 160 ms to the cloud) ensures smooth, real-time video streaming.
The system is built for robustness and versatility. The Matrice 5TD can operate in extreme temperatures from -40°C to 50°C, with the dock automatically heating batteries in cold weather and activating air conditioning in heat. Its advanced obstacle sensing system, combining multi-directional radar, LiDAR, and six-directional visual detection, allows for safe navigation even in complex environments like electrical substations.
