Doctor-Turned-Founder Tackles Healthcare Staffing Shortage

Iman Abuzeid, who completed medical school in London, chose not to pursue a residency, instead focusing on broader issues within the healthcare sector. She co-founded Incredible Health, a hiring platform aimed at solving the persistent staffing shortages faced by healthcare employers.

Based in San Francisco, Incredible Health has secured around $97.5 million in funding from investors including Andreessen Horowitz and Base10 Partners. The company reports that its platform is utilized by 1.5 million healthcare professionals and 1,500 healthcare employers.

The impetus for Incredible Health stemmed from observations of a mismatch in the healthcare labor market. Abuzeid and her co-founder, Rome Portlock, noted that while hospitals experienced significant understaffing, experienced nurses often struggled to connect with employers urgently seeking their skills.

Incredible Health's platform reverses the traditional hiring process, enabling employers to apply to healthcare professionals. The software automates screening and matching for permanent positions at hospitals and other healthcare facilities. The service is free for healthcare professionals, while employers pay an annual subscription fee.

The company's funding rounds have been oversubscribed. Abuzeid emphasizes a selective approach to investors, favoring those with marketplace experience and a history of supporting underrepresented founders.
