Documentary on Elon Musk raises questions regarding regulatory accountability
Director Alex Gibney questions whether a Democrat-controlled Congress can effectively investigate Elon Musk’s business practices amid his substantial political donations.

Following a screening at the Wired World Fair, director Alex Gibney raised concerns regarding the ability of the U.S. political system to scrutinize Elon Musk’s business dealings. Gibney questioned whether the incoming legislative majority possesses the resolve to conduct investigations independent of the influence exerted by Musk’s significant campaign contributions.
The documentary, titled 'Musk,' examines multiple government investigations into the entrepreneur's various corporate interests. Gibney posits that these regulatory pressures have influenced Musk’s support for Republican candidates, including donations exceeding $474 million during the recent election cycle. Critics and analysts are now debating the potential for increased oversight as the legislative landscape shifts.
The project faced significant hurdles, including legal threats from Musk’s counsel and resistance from major social media platforms to advertise the trailer. Musk declined to participate in the production, leading the team to utilize an AI-generated avatar for segments requiring his input. The film is scheduled for digital release on November 6.
