DoorDash has introduced an AI agent that allows customers to order food through Apple Messages simply by sending text messages.
Food delivery service DoorDash announced on Wednesday the launch of a new AI agent that enables users to place food orders via Apple Messages through text messages alone.
The new tool allows users to send prompts such as "order my usual," and the agent will understand it refers to their typical Friday night order. DoorDash states the agent can also provide local recommendations based on specific requests and suggest a cart with food photos. For group orders, the agent can manage mixed dietary preferences and quantities within a single order.
By launching an AI agent for food ordering, DoorDash aims to strengthen its competitive position against rivals like Uber Eats and Grubhub. This move aligns with a broader trend of personal AI agents handling tasks without requiring users to navigate apps or websites.
DoorDash has opened a waitlist for users in the U.S. to try the new feature. The company also announced it will begin testing delivery drones with select restaurants in Northern California.
