US-based food delivery platform DoorDash has commenced drone delivery operations in Northern California. The initiative expands the company's delivery methods, utilizing aerial routes for faster service.
Initially, the drone delivery service will partner with restaurants such as Chipotle and Popeyes. DoorDash is employing lightweight, six-propeller drones, which are reported to operate at a noise level comparable to a passing car. The company states that, under ideal conditions, delivery to the customer's doorstep could take as little as five minutes.
The new system integrates a proprietary delivery management system that factors in traffic conditions, weather, and flight times to determine the most suitable orders for aerial delivery. This approach aims to optimize efficiency and reliability.
DoorDash also announced a new feature for iPhone users in the US, allowing them to order directly through the Messages app without needing to download a separate application or visit a website.
