DoorDash plans to retain Instacart brand following $17 billion acquisition
DoorDash has reached an agreement to acquire Instacart for approximately $17 billion. The companies will operate independently until the deal closes, expected by early 2028.

DoorDash has entered into an agreement to acquire Instacart in a deal valued at approximately $17 billion. Despite the change in ownership, leadership indicated that both the Instacart brand and its application will remain active as the company seeks to integrate grocery and delivery services into a single ecosystem.
The consolidation aims to provide a unified membership model, potentially reducing costs for consumers who currently subscribe to both platforms. CEO Tony Xu noted that while consumer-facing changes focus on improved delivery times and selection, a significant portion of the deal’s value lies in operational efficiencies and enhanced consumer data.
Market analysts suggest the deal presents challenges for consumer packaged goods (CPG) brands. By owning two of the largest delivery networks, the merged entity may exert greater leverage over digital ad pricing. Industry experts are monitoring the pending antitrust reviews, which are expected to delay the deal's finalization until late 2027 or early 2028.
