DoorDash to Launch Drone Delivery Service
Food delivery company DoorDash is launching a new drone delivery program called DoorDash Air. The company has received Federal Aviation Administration approval for future drone-based deliveries.
DoorDash, a major food delivery platform in the US, is introducing a new division focused on drone deliveries, named DoorDash Air. The company announced it has secured a Part 135 air carrier certification from the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), paving the way for drone deliveries in the near future.
This certification allows DoorDash to expand its delivery capabilities into aerial logistics. Previously, the company collaborated with Alphabet's drone delivery division, Wing, on pilot programs in locations such as Dallas-Fort Worth, Virginia, and Australia.
DoorDash has stated its intention to develop its own drones moving forward. While specific details about their proprietary drone models have not yet been released, this move signifies a strategic focus on autonomous delivery.
Other entities that have received similar FAA certification include Alphabet's Wing, Zipline, and Amazon. Experts in the logistics sector anticipate a rise in drone delivery services, potentially reshaping the landscape of retail and food distribution.
