ByteDance's Doubao unit has refuted claims of widespread layoffs affecting its general-session team. Liu Xing, the company's head of public relations, stated on September 24 that the reports were inaccurate and that the changes represented an internal restructuring of responsibilities.
According to Liu Xing, the team comprised fewer than 50 employees. The restructuring impacted 11 individuals, with three ultimately leaving the company. Certain functions have been reassigned to Doubao's transaction and work teams, while employees continue their work on improving transaction-related dialogue experiences.
The reports had suggested significant staff reductions within the general-session team. Doubao's representative has countered these assertions, emphasizing that the adjustments were limited to an internal division of labor rather than extensive dismissals.
ByteDance is a major Chinese technology conglomerate, primarily known for its popular short-form video platform, TikTok. Doubao is one of its artificial intelligence initiatives, focusing on language models and conversational AI.
