DP Patterning debuts flexible circuit technology for automotive interiors
DP Patterning, Artifex Systems, and ams OSRAM have developed a vehicle interior demonstrator featuring integrated flexible copper-cladded aluminum circuits.
DP Patterning is expanding its manufacturing reach into the automotive interior sector through a collaboration with Artifex Systems and ams OSRAM. The companies have produced a prototype A-pillar trim that embeds blind spot warning signals directly into the vehicle's structural molding.
The technology utilizes flexible copper-cladded aluminum circuits manufactured at DP Patterning’s production facility in Norrköping, Sweden. By integrating electronic components directly into interior components, the initiative aims to reduce the complexity of wiring harnesses and hardware assembly in modern vehicle cabins.
The demonstrator is scheduled for public display at the electronica trade fair in Munich from November 10 to 13. This project highlights a trend toward structural electronics, where sensing and lighting are incorporated into existing interior materials rather than as standalone modules.
While the project showcases the technical integration of DP Patterning’s circuits with ams OSRAM’s lighting technology and Artifex Systems’ manufacturing processes, commercial adoption remains subject to automotive safety standards and integration testing by manufacturers.
