Dr Hilary Jones Appointed Patron of Pancreatic Cancer Action

Pancreatic Cancer Action has announced that Dr Hilary Jones, a prominent health editor, has become a Patron for the charity. Dr Jones, who has previously supported the organization's work in the media, expressed his commitment to improving awareness and education surrounding pancreatic cancer.

He highlighted that pancreatic cancer has a worse outlook than lung, bowel, and breast cancer, underscoring the urgent need for increased public awareness and education. Dr Jones specifically emphasized the critical role of educating primary care professionals, such as GPs, in achieving earlier diagnosis.

Dr Jones will support Pancreatic Cancer Action's initiatives, which include developing medical educational tools and raising broader public awareness. In September 2015, he backed the charity's campaign to reverse a National Health Service (NHS) decision to remove a life-prolonging drug for the disease from the Cancer Drugs Fund.

Ali Stunt, founder of Pancreatic Cancer Action and a survivor of the disease, welcomed Dr Jones's support. Stunt established the charity in 2010 with the aim of improving outcomes for future patients. The organization focuses on promoting earlier diagnosis, which is crucial for enabling life-saving surgery and improving survival rates.
