The driver, identified as Wang, had consumed alcohol before starting his vehicle and engaging the ADAS. The system issued multiple warnings about driver distraction. Eventually, the vehicle triggered a safety brake and disengaged the assistance feature when the driver was no longer able to meet the system's requirements due to intoxication and sleep.
Authorities obtained data from the vehicle manufacturer confirming the driver's actions. Wang's blood alcohol content significantly exceeded the legal limit for drunk driving. Police emphasized that L2-level systems are assistive and do not replace the driver, who remains responsible for monitoring the vehicle.
Prosecutors charged Wang with dangerous driving. The court ruled that his actions constituted a crime, imposing the sentence of one month's detention and a fine. An appeals court upheld the original verdict.
