Drone Systems Added to WorldSkills Competition
The WorldSkills Competition has introduced a new drone systems category, testing participants in assembly, programming, and flight. The addition reflects the growing significance of drone technology across industries.

Hamburg, Germany – The 48th WorldSkills Competition has officially added drone systems as a new skill category, reflecting the rapid advancement and industrial importance of unmanned aerial vehicles. This new competition aims to assess a comprehensive range of skills essential for the modern drone industry.
The training grounds for the drone systems event are located at the Hangzhou Technician College. Coaches have indicated that the competition will focus on assessing participants' multi-dimensional capabilities. The initial phase requires competitors to assemble and debug drone systems from individual components.
Beyond assembly, participants will be tasked with intricate procedures including circuit testing, sensor diagnostics, and high-precision manual obstacle flying. A significant challenge will involve programming to enable autonomous planning and flight. This aspect is considered the most demanding part of the competition.
The programming requirement involves developing sophisticated algorithms that allow drones to perform autonomous identification, route planning, flight, and landing, essentially equipping the drone with an integrated control system. Competitors will also need to demonstrate proficiency with three different types of drones, mirroring the diverse applications found in sectors such as precision agriculture and surveillance.
