Drone U Integrates Engineering Continuing Education into Flight Training
Colorado-based Drone U has launched an RCEP-accredited program allowing professional engineers to earn continuing education credits through FAA Part 107 drone training.

Drone U, a flight school headquartered in Loveland, Colorado, has introduced a professional development program that enables licensed engineers to earn 24 professional development hours (PDHs) through FAA Part 107 certification training. The curriculum is registered under the Registered Continuing Education Program (RCEP).
The initiative addresses the increasing role of unmanned aircraft in sectors such as civil engineering, utility management, and construction. Drones are frequently utilized for tasks including site mapping, topographic documentation, and structural inspections. By integrating aviation education with engineering requirements, the program aims to provide professionals with the regulatory and operational foundation necessary to incorporate aerial data into their technical workflows.
CEO Paul Aitken stated that the company views drones as an extension of an engineer's ability to measure and document the physical world. The curriculum focuses on aviation regulations, airspace safety, and operational limitations to ensure that aerial data collection meets professional standards.
Founded in 2013, Drone U offers online and in-person instruction covering flight proficiency and photogrammetry. This program is intended for engineers looking to formalize their drone operations within their existing professional license requirements.
