DSH releases 9-step spring cleaning checklist to prevent accidents

Aktion Das Sichere Haus (DSH), an organization focused on safety education, has launched a new 9-step spring cleaning checklist. The initiative is designed to assist households in conducting a thorough cleaning of their homes and gardens while emphasizing accident prevention.

The organization highlights that most accidents happen within the home, and many of these can be avoided with simple precautions. The accompanying PDF checklist provides a structured approach to cleaning tasks, allowing users to track their progress. It also includes a shopping list and specific advice for preventing falls and poisonings.

Key safety recommendations include proper use of ladders and cleaning agents. DSH advises wearing sturdy footwear and regularly inspecting ladders for damage. When working at height, users are cautioned against overreaching and encouraged to reposition ladders as needed. To prevent accidental ingestion of cleaning products by children, due to their appealing colors, DSH recommends storing them out of reach in high places or locked cabinets.

The checklist outlines a systematic cleaning order: starting "from top to bottom," working "from back to front," and cleaning bathrooms and kitchens last. It also stresses the importance of preparation, including decluttering and organizing. Major tasks such as window cleaning and curtain washing are included.

Additionally, DSH offers a brochure titled "Sauber ist sicher besser" (Clean is Safer) which provides further details on accident prevention during cleaning for both adults and children.
