Duke-NUS and SingHealth Launch Academic Medicine Innovation Institute

Duke-NUS Medical School and SingHealth announced the establishment of the Academic Medicine Innovation Institute (AMII) on June 28, 2021. The new institute aims to provide a virtual framework to cultivate a culture of innovation and facilitate the sharing of best practices across the SingHealth Duke-NUS Academic Medical Centre (AMC).

The institute's creation addresses the growing need for novel approaches to healthcare challenges, including demographic shifts, evolving disease patterns, and rising costs. AMII intends to drive innovation to enhance patient care delivery and ensure the sustainability of the healthcare system.

AMII's activities will be organized around five priority areas: ecosystem building and strategic partnerships, co-development and test-bedding, adoption and scaling, culture building and human capital development, and emerging technologies and data. Working groups will spearhead these areas, sharing ideas and making recommendations to advance innovation goals.

The institute will also support direct innovation initiatives, such as SingHealth's Artificial Intelligence Programme, and provide resources for evaluating the value of innovation projects within the healthcare system. The launch event emphasized that innovation can take many forms and unites professionals across disciplines, strengthening the AMC's collective impact.
