Duke-NUS Medical School launches book chronicling COVID-19 efforts

Duke-NUS Medical School launched "Duke-NUS COVID Stories" on March 3, 2023, a publication that chronicles the institution's milestones and personal experiences during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The book captures the timeline of discoveries and the individual stories of the researchers, clinician-scientists, and alumni who contributed. Dean Professor Thomas Coffman noted the challenging nature of the pandemic but expressed pride in the school's resilience and scientific contributions, stating they "really punched above their weight."

Key narratives focus on Duke-NUS's Emerging Infectious Diseases Programme and its BSL3 laboratory operations. Senior Vice-Dean for Research, Professor Patrick Casey, highlighted that the book underscores the impact of individuals, emphasizing that "people matter" and can make a difference, with the aim of better preparedness for future pandemics.

The launch event also unveiled an accompanying microsite. Director of Communications & Strategic Relations, Anirudh Sharma, described the book as a tribute to the staff's efforts in providing solutions and combating misinformation during the crisis. The publication aims to share moments of inspiration and serve as a resource for future preparedness.
