Dunn-Edwards Names "French Press Coffee" as 2027 Color of the Year
Paint company Dunn-Edwards has selected "French Press Coffee" (DEBN07) as its 2027 Color of the Year, a deep brown with a subtle plum undertone signaling a shift toward warmer, earthy hues.

LOS ANGELES – Paint manufacturer Dunn-Edwards Corporation has announced "French Press Coffee" (DEBN07) as its 2027 Color of the Year. The chosen shade is a deep, nuanced brown with a subtle plum undertone, intended to evoke the richness of coffee and an enduring sense of "lived-in luxury."
The selection represents a notable departure from recent years' dominance of cool grays, stark whites, and flat beiges, indicating a broader industry trend toward warmer, earth-toned palettes. "French Press Coffee" is positioned as a complex neutral, offering a sophisticated alternative to stark black or charcoal gray.
"'French Press Coffee' is the kind of color that reveals itself gradually," said Lauren Hoferkamp, Color Marketing Manager at Dunn-Edwards. "As light shifts throughout the day, its subtle plum undertone emerges, adding complexity you don't always see in a neutral. It's grounding and restrained yet full of character."
The color is recommended as a mood-setting backdrop for interiors, creating a cozy and layered atmosphere. It is also suggested for smaller spaces like powder rooms or studies, as well as for architectural details such as cabinetry. Dunn-Edwards proposes pairing it with earthy greens, clay tones, and soft creams, alongside materials like walnut, aged brass, and linen.
