Dyson introduces styler for straightening wet hair
Dyson has launched the Dyson Airstrait™, a styler claimed to straighten hair directly from wet to dry without heat damage. Traditional straighteners require dry hair, as they can cause moisture damage.

Technology company Dyson has introduced a new hair styling device, the Dyson Airstrait™ Hot Air Styler, which the company states enables hair to be straightened directly from a wet state. Dyson asserts that traditional straighteners and blow dryers can cause significant damage to hair when used on damp or wet strands.
Using conventional straighteners on damp or wet hair can lead to structural damage, dryness, and breakage. According to Dyson, this is because wet hair contains water that rapidly turns to steam when heated. Traditional styling tools often operate at temperatures between 180-230 degrees Celsius, which can strip moisture and harm the hair cuticle.
The Dyson Airstrait™ utilizes a focused stream of hot air to dry and straighten hair simultaneously, without the need for direct contact with heated plates. The device is designed to direct hot air downwards at a 45-degree angle, effectively shaping the hair at high speed. It features different modes suitable for various hair types and styling needs, including a specific setting for wet hair.
The company suggests that the Airstrait™ helps maintain the hair's moisture level while reducing frizz and damage. Users are advised to apply heat protectant to their hair before styling and to section the hair for even results. Dyson also recommends allowing the hair to cool after styling and setting the style with hairspray. Dyson's device offers an alternative to traditional styling methods, allowing for combined drying and straightening in one step while mitigating the risk of heat-related hair damage.
