Dyson Offers Guidance on Extending Vacuum Cleaner Battery Life
Dyson GmbH has released a guide detailing the factors affecting the lifespan of batteries in its cordless vacuum cleaners and how to maintain them. The company emphasizes proper care to maximize battery performance and longevity.

Dyson GmbH has published guidance to help consumers understand how to extend the operational life of batteries in their cordless vacuum cleaners. The company highlights the battery as a critical component and stresses that proper maintenance ensures the device's consistent performance and durability.
The guide explains that most modern cordless vacuums utilize lithium-ion batteries due to their high energy density, longevity, and minimal memory effect. Several factors can impact a battery's lifespan, including extreme temperatures (below -10°C or above 30°C), physical impacts from drops, exposure to moisture, and complete discharge. The number of charging cycles and storage conditions also play a significant role.
Dyson states that lithium-ion batteries typically support up to 1,000 charging cycles when cared for correctly. The company advises users to avoid overcharging and deep discharging, recommending an ideal charge level between 20% and 80%. Letting the battery completely drain and delaying its recharge can lead to irreversible damage.
Furthermore, Dyson recommends using only manufacturer-approved charging accessories to ensure safety and optimal battery function. The company notes that its own cordless vacuum batteries can remain on their charging docks indefinitely. However, it suggests that for other models, continuous charging might accelerate battery aging.
Regular maintenance, such as keeping filters and sensors clean, also enhances vacuum efficiency and can contribute to longer battery duration per charge. Dyson indicates that selecting an appropriate power setting, often lower than the maximum, conserves battery power over time.
