Dyson pulls $500 smart toothbrush from stores weeks after launch due to reported issues

Dyson has reportedly halted sales of its new AI-powered CameraJet toothbrush, mere weeks after its market debut, citing technical issues. The product, which was the culmination of six years of development and priced at around $500, has faced consumer complaints regarding water seepage and device malfunctions shortly after its release.

Reports emerged from various sources, including Wired and French publication Numerama, detailing user experiences with water entering the battery compartment and devices failing within seconds of use. These reports prompted Dyson to cease sales in multiple markets, including the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, and France.

A spokesperson for Dyson stated that a specific production batch of jet tubes experienced a process issue, creating a potential for water seepage that affected the performance of a small number of units. The CameraJet was designed with integrated AI and camera technology, utilizing Gap Optical Targeting to identify and address gaps between teeth with precision jet bursts of mouth rinse.

James Dyson, the company's founder and chief engineer, had previously articulated the product's aim to solve fundamental challenges in oral hygiene, such as visualizing dental gaps, effectively removing plaque, and enhancing cleaning performance. The device was engineered to analyze 28 live images per second to provide real-time guidance.
