E-Residency program marks five years of digital identity services
Estonia's e-Residency program celebrates five years of operation, having provided digital identities to tens of thousands of entrepreneurs globally. The program aims to expand its services to further facilitate international business operations within the EU.

Estonia's e-Residency program, which offers a global digital identity and enables the operation of European businesses remotely, has now completed five years of service. The program has attracted tens of thousands of entrepreneurs who utilize it to establish and manage their companies in Estonia without requiring a physical presence.
Initially launched in 2014, e-Residency has gained popularity particularly among freelancers, remote workers, and international startups. The program allows users to digitally sign documents, establish companies online, and handle tax-related affairs through Estonian digital services.
To mark its five-year anniversary, officials have announced plans for further development of the service. The objective is to enhance usability and broaden the scope of offered services, enabling more global entrepreneurs to leverage Estonia's digital solutions. Future efforts will focus on integrating the program with other European digital services.
E-Residency does not grant citizenship or residency, but rather a digital identity and access to Estonia's e-environment. The program's success has demonstrated the potential of digital entrepreneurship and opened new avenues for international business without geographical constraints.
