Eastman Chemical Company Joins World Business Council for Sustainable Development
Eastman Chemical Company has become a member of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD). The company will participate in the WBCSD's new "Reaching Full Potential" project for the chemical sector.
The World Business Council for Sustainable Development (WBCSD) announced on Thursday that Eastman Chemical Company has joined its membership. The company will be closely involved with the WBCSD's new "Reaching Full Potential" project focused on the chemical sector.
Eastman, which produces a wide range of advanced materials, additives, functional products, specialty chemicals, and fibers, serves customers in approximately 100 countries. Sustainability is described as essential to the company's operations, aiming to create value through environmental stewardship, social responsibility, and economic growth.
Peter Bakker, President of WBCSD, welcomed Eastman, calling it a global leader in the chemical sector. He stated that Eastman's participation will benefit and enrich the council's work, highlighting the company's robust sustainability program that addresses the three pillars of sustainability.
Eastman Chairman and CEO Jim Rogers emphasized that the company's growth relies on integrating sustainability across all functions, from product development to strategic acquisitions. He indicated that WBCSD membership will facilitate collaboration with other corporations to advance sustainability throughout their value chains and globally.
As an initial focus, Eastman will participate in the WBCSD's project on "Avoided Emissions." This initiative, in conjunction with the International Council of Chemical Associations (ICCA), aims to develop case studies demonstrating how chemical products can help account for and report emissions reductions, showcasing the industry's contribution to addressing climate change.
