The self-regulating cables automatically adjust their heat output based on ambient temperatures. They deliver between 3 and 6 watts per foot in milder cold conditions and up to 12 watts per foot in sub-zero temperatures, eliminating the need for external thermostats in most applications. For effective pipe freeze protection, the heating cable must be installed along the entire length of exposed pipes, including valves and fittings. The self-regulating feature distinguishes these cables from constant-wattage types, which produce consistent heat regardless of conditions. This self-regulation prevents overheating, making the cables safe for use with plastic pipes and allowing for overlapped installation without creating hot spots.
