eBay CEO Gathers Ideas from Constant Feedback
eBay CEO Jamie Iannone seeks new ideas from continuous feedback from both customers and internal leaders. He interviewed company executives before taking the role.

eBay CEO Jamie Iannone has leveraged customer feedback and internal listening to drive the company's evolution. Before assuming his role in April 2020, Iannone prepared a 10-page white paper for the board outlining his ideas for reviving the online marketplace. He also interviewed all top leaders within the company, asking three key questions: what needed to change, what needed to stay the same, and what they hoped he would do as CEO.
These conversations provided Iannone with a deep understanding of how to execute his strategic plan while simultaneously evolving eBay's culture. He emphasizes that "if you can find it inside them, most companies have the answer" for identifying the best path forward.
Iannone also actively seeks feedback from eBay's buyers and sellers. He recalled an instance where two handbag sellers expressed frustration with the limited number of product photos they could use. Subsequently, eBay increased the photo limit to 24 images. Iannone believes that listening to the community provides valuable insights for the company's development.
Iannone anticipates that satisfied buyers and sellers will increase platform activity and fuel eBay's growth. The company notes that word-of-mouth remains its largest source of new business. This ethos has guided numerous changes and new features, such as post-sale authentication services, aimed at enhancing trust.
eBay, which earlier this year completed its acquisition of Depop, a secondhand fashion site, has also benefited from the surging interest in thrifting. Since Iannone took the helm, eBay's stock price has nearly tripled and has risen over 20% this year, outperforming the broader market.
