Echandia to supply battery systems for two new electric tugs in India
Echandia has been selected to supply battery systems for two fully electric tugs within India’s Green Tug Transition Program. The vessels will operate at Visakhapatnam Port Authority and V.O.C Port Authority in Tuticorin.

Knowledge Marine & Engineering Works has chosen Echandia to provide battery systems for two new, fully electric tugboats to be deployed in India. These vessels are part of India's Green Tug Transition Program, aimed at reducing maritime emissions, and will operate within the Visakhapatnam Port Authority and V.O.C Port Authority in Tuticorin.
This contract marks a significant step for Echandia in establishing its presence in India's growing electric tug market. The order represents the first deployment of Echandia's recently launched Echandia Core battery system in India. The systems are designed for a 15-year service life, aligning with the full concession period of the vessels and negating the need for mid-life battery replacements.
