Ecopetrol Appoints Joaquín Gutiérrez Caballero as New Chief Executive Officer

Ecopetrol S.A., Colombia's largest company and a major integrated energy player in the Americas, announced that its Board of Directors has unanimously appointed Joaquín Gutiérrez Caballero as its new Chief Executive Officer. The appointment is effective permanently starting September 28, 2026. Camilo Barco will conclude his interim CEO role on September 27, 2026.

The selection process, managed by the Board's Compensation, Nomination and Culture Committee, aimed to identify a leader with strong stakeholder engagement and coordination skills. The board emphasized the need for such leadership to navigate the company through its next phase of development in a challenging environment.

Gutiérrez Caballero brings over 30 years of professional experience and holds a degree in Business Administration, with postgraduate specializations in Telecommunications Project Management, Telecommunications Law, and Healthcare Services Management. His key priorities will include advancing the company's renewal, strengthening value creation, promoting transparent management practices, and enhancing collaboration with various stakeholders including the Colombian State, local communities, investors, and employees.

Ecopetrol is a significant contributor to Colombia's energy sector, responsible for over 60% of the nation's hydrocarbon production. Its operations encompass transportation, logistics, refining, petrochemicals, and gas distribution. The company has also expanded into energy transmission and road concessions through strategic acquisitions, positioning it as a diversified energy entity.
