Eden Radioisotopes Advances $1.4 Billion Medical Isotope Project in New Mexico

Eden Radioisotopes has made substantial progress on its planned medical isotope production facility in Lea County, New Mexico. The project is moving forward with support from the State of New Mexico and the selection of Kiewit Nuclear Solutions Co. as its nuclear engineering, procurement, and construction (EPC) partner, alongside continued collaboration with Sargent & Lundy for architectural, engineering, and regulatory services.

The State of New Mexico will support Eden's investment of up to $1.4 billion through various programs, including job training incentives and tax credits for high-wage and rural jobs. The project is projected to create 205 jobs statewide and generate over $1.5 billion in economic impact over a decade.

This facility is intended to be North America's first purpose-built reactor and processing plant for medical isotopes. The United States currently relies on aging reactors and overseas producers for its supply of these isotopes, which are critical for over 40,000 medical procedures daily. Eden's project aims to enhance the reliability and resilience of the U.S. medical isotope supply chain.

Eden has submitted its Construction Permit Application to the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (NRC) and anticipates a decision by mid-2027, with commercial operations expected to begin in 2030. The facility's technology is based on research from Sandia National Laboratories and is expected to leverage New Mexico's extensive background in nuclear science and technology.
