Edify Club uses AI to scale laptop refurbishment in India

Edify Club is addressing India's growing electronic waste issue by acquiring retired business-grade laptops and restoring them for secondary market use. By keeping the refurbishment process in-house at its Bengaluru facility, the company aims to offer a standardized, warranted alternative to the country's unorganized secondary electronics market.

The startup employs computer-vision AI to evaluate the cosmetic condition of hardware, which allows for consistent pricing and quality assessment at scale. Following internal restoration—which includes motherboard repair and chassis refinishing—the units are sold with a minimum 12-month warranty. The company reports it has diverted over 50,000 devices from landfills to date.

With approximately 20 million computing devices reaching the end of their corporate life in India annually, the firm estimates a $5 billion market opportunity. The business model is supported by investors including Prime Venture Partners and BEENEXT. Unlike marketplace competitors, Edify Club manages the entire supply chain, which the founders state allows for stricter quality control.

While the company has reported approximately $5.3 million in annual recurring revenue, its growth remains tethered to corporate IT refresh cycles. The company must ensure a consistent supply of functional machines to meet consumer demand as the market for refurbished hardware continues to evolve.
