Education Consultant Sentenced for Deleting Student University Applications
A Chinese education consultant has been sentenced to eight months in prison for intentionally deleting a college applicant's university applications out of spite.

An education consultant in China has been handed an eight-month prison sentence after intentionally deleting a student's university applications in an act of revenge. The incident, which occurred in Sichuan province, highlights vulnerabilities in digital systems within the education sector.
The case unfolded in July 2025 when a student, referred to as Xiaoming (a pseudonym), was eligible to be admitted to university. Xiaoming’s father had engaged an employee at a local education consulting firm, Liu Moumou, to assist with the application process. However, after negotiations over fees stalled, Xiaoming's family decided to use a different service provider.
Feeling spurned, Liu Moumou unlawfully accessed the Sichuan Provincial Education Examinations Authority's application system and deleted all of Xiaoming’s submitted undergraduate applications. This action caused Xiaoming to miss the opportunity for undergraduate admission in that application round.
The Xuanhan County Court ruled that Liu Moumou's actions constituted the crime of damaging a computer information system. The court found that the deletion of the student's information caused severe consequences, preventing their admission to university. Liu Moumou was subsequently sentenced to eight months of detention.
