Efferon develops blood purification technology for pediatric sepsis

Biotech startup Efferon is developing new technology to treat pediatric sepsis, a condition that causes severe inflammation triggered by infection and is a leading cause of death in children worldwide.

The company has created a medical device designed to lower rates of organ failure and significantly speed up recovery in children when standard treatments, such as antibiotics, are insufficient to control the body's overactive immune response.

When a patient's immune system overreacts to an infection, deadly toxins can accumulate in the blood. Efferon's device works by filtering these harmful substances, including cytokines and other inflammatory mediators, from the bloodstream.

Selected as one of TechCrunch Disrupt 2026's Startup Battlefield 200 companies, Efferon aims to make a significant impact on reducing childhood mortality from sepsis. The technology addresses a critical need in pediatric intensive care, where rapid intervention is crucial.
