Egyptian e-health startup Reme-D raises $1.45 million

Egyptian e-health startup Reme-D has secured $1.45 million in pre-Series A funding to expand its manufacturing capacity, regional footprint, and diagnostic product portfolio.

Founded in 2023 by Salma Tammam, Reme-D develops and manufactures molecular diagnostic tests for diseases including tuberculosis (TB), HIV, hepatitis, and HPV, focusing on affordable, temperature-resilient diagnostics for underserved markets across Africa.

The funding round was led by Anara Impact Capital, with participation from the Global Innovation Fund (GIF), Africa Health Ventures, and other investors. Reme-D plans to use the funds to increase its manufacturing output, extend its regional reach, and add new tests to its portfolio, including those for genetic diseases and cancer. The company aims to make its products more resilient to temperature fluctuations and easier to transport and store in remote locations with limited healthcare infrastructure.

Since its launch, Reme-D has developed and commercialized 30 diagnostic products at its Cairo-based manufacturing facility. The company has supplied over 550,000 tests across Egypt, Kenya, and Sudan. Reme-D previously raised $500,000 from GIF in April.

“Our ultimate goal is that patients in Africa and the Global South are no longer blocked from life-altering disease diagnosis by cost or availability of an advanced molecular test in their area,” said CEO Salma Tammam. She also noted the company’s pride in demonstrating “African science and African women can bring to the business world and global community.”
